Equestions shares information about horse judging - from free resources on the web to coaching strategies. My goal is to reinvigorate interest in horse judging by helping coaches and youth increase their knowledge of equine conformation and performance. I believe we will strengthen the equine industry and the people in it when we truly understand the fundamentals of form to function and the impacts they have on the horse.
As a former youth competitive judger turned teacher, coach, and official, I want to share the secrets of my success with other coaches in order to help kids find enjoyment in horse judging (yes, its possible) and build skills that will serve them well into their professional and personal futures.
I knew I struck gold in my teaching methods when I was a new 4-H volunteer coaching a horse judging team in Minnesota. The county had already been active in hippology but said they needed help with the judging phase. I came into the county specifically to coach the judging teams and every week the practice attendance INCREASED! Parents were approaching me and telling me that they had to bring their kids to see what this was all about. The kids and the parents loved it! We prepared for the state contest and in our first year the senior team qualified for a national trip! So what worked so well? My practices involve games and activities rooted in educational psychology that makes learning approachable, fun, and effective. Want to learn more? Contact me!
